     Within the period since December 2015 to May 2016 the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC has successfully executed the cycle of works in construction and installation works, as well as special drilling works (made by the directional drilling method) as per subcontract agreement at the project site: "Construction of the Suzunskoe field. Intersettlement oil pipeline “UPN “SUZUN” - "CPF of the Vankor field” from the LACT unit “Vankor”. Oil pipeline crossings (main and reserve lines) through the river Bolshaya Kheta by the directional drilling method".

     The customer of works was the “Suzun” LLC, the contractor was “SP VIS-MOS” LLC. 

     Service line Ø530x14mm covered with factory polymeric insulation was pulled into a casing Ø1020 mm laid in a predrilled borehole Ø 1400 mm, with thermal coating made of PU foam coverings 100 mm thick in a metal polymeric coating. The main line of a crossing was 839 linear meters long, reserve line - 829 linear meters long in plan. 

     The works in construction of oil pipeline by the HDD method through the river Bolshaya Kheta consisted of: construction of building sites № 1, 2, 3, installation of drill rig facility, drilling works, welding of bottom pipes and service lines, hydraulic testing and bottom pipes insulation, as well as installation of bottom pipes into predrilled boreholes, installation of service pipelines into casings, cleaning of body cavity of service pipelines, inspection of insulation by the method of cathodic polarization followed by dismantling of equipment and revegetation of building sites No. 1, 2, 3. 

     The works were carried out using drill rig PD 220/67-3. Maximum traction power by pulling the 1020mm casing in metal polymeric coating into subsurface borehole did not exceed 100 tons (according to rated conditions)/ The drilling trajectory has passed in hard frozen fine and middle-sized sands with low ice content, as well as in light solidly frozen loam with low ice content and sliced netted cryostructure. Level difference between entry and exit items for the HDD boreholes on the right and left banks of the river made up 43 meters.

      Specialists of the "SP VIS-MOS" has demonstrated a high degree of organizational preparation during execution of all types of works having successfully completed construction of the crossing within the time specified by the contract.

   The "SP VIS-MOS" LLC based on the contract with the “Giprotyumenneftegaz” JSC has developed design documentation for construction of the project “Project “South”. First stage. Reconstruction of main trunk pipelines “Tikhoretsk – Novorossiysk”.

Response to the executed works

The customer in construction of the project was the “ROSPAN INTERNATIONAL” JSC, the Contractor was the “Sibregiongazstroy" LLC, the Contractor in charge for drilling was the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC.

Within the period since 14.02.2016 to 25.03.2016 the "SP VIS-MOS" LLC has successfully executed the cycle of specialized drilling works according to the contract in drilling of HDD boreholes, pulling a casing into predrilled boreholes for a pipeline of dried gas (Ø720x14) and the casing for a pipeline of unstable condensate (Ø530x12), as well as  it has executed an installation of service lines of dried gas pipeline into the laid casings (Ø530x10) and a pipeline of unstable condensate (Ø219x10) during construction of pipeline crossings through the river Evayakha.

Project site: “Pipeline for dried gas from the Novo-Urengoysky UKPG to the Vostochno-Urengoysky UKPG”. “Pipeline for unstable condensate from the Novo-Urengoysky UKPG to the Vostochno-Urengoysky UKPG” pipeline crossings through the river Evayakha located in the Purovsky region of the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous district of the Tyumen region in 40 km eastward of the Novy Urengoy. 

The distance between the strings of gas and condensate pipelines has made up 24.5 meters.

Geologically the drilling path lies mainly in intermediate sized water-saturated sands prone to formation of water-bearing sands.

During execution of drilling works the ambient temperature has dropped below minus 32 degrees.

During construction of the project site “Reconstruction of BKS-1, 2 at the Orenburgskoe NGKM” we have decided to involve the "SP VIS-MOS" LLC (Ulyanovsk) as a contractor for execution of technically difficult and important section of a pipeline for raw gas – construction of underwater pipeline crossing D=1020 mm through the river Donguz by the HDD method.

Response to the work done

     Within the period since 14.02.2016 to 25.03.2016 the "SP VIS-MOS" LLC has completed drilling works within the project: "Pipeline of dehydrated gas from the Novo-Urengoysky UKPG to the Vostochno-Unrengoysky UKPG, pipeline of unstable condensate from the Novo-Urengoysky UKPG to the Vostochno-Unrengoysky UKPG" under subcontract in construction of pipeline crossings through the river Evayakha by the horizontal directional drilling method (HDD) in the territory of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous district of the Tyumen region in the Novy Urengoy city.

    The customer of works was the "ROSPAN INTERNATIONAL", the contractor was the "Sibregiongazstroy" LLC.

    The length of each crossing has made up 590 linear meters according to the plan. Service pipelines Ø530 mm (gas pipeline) and Ø219 mm (condensate pipeline) were laid inside casing pipes Ø720 and 530 mm with polyethylene insulation laid into predrilled boreholes Ø100 mm and 750 mm. Maximal traction power for pulling of a casing pipe Ø720 mm into subsoil borehole did not exceed 80 tons (in accordance with rated forces).

The works in construction of pipeline crossings by the horizontal directional drilling method through the river Evayakha included arrangement of the building sites № 1, 2, 3, installation of drilling facilities, boreholes’ drilling, welding of bottom pipes of casing pipes and service pipelines, hydraulic testing and insulation of bottom pipes, as well as its installation into predrilled boreholes, installation of service lines into casing pipes, cleaning and calibration of shank bores of service lines, testing of insulation condition by the cathodic polarization method with consequent dismantling of equipment and reclamation of building sites № 1, 2, 3.

     The works have been carried out using drilling facility PD 220/67. The drilling trajectory have passed mainly in fine and middle-sized water-flooded sands susceptible to creation of quicksand that has been repeatedly proven within the drilling process.

     Despite for difficult weather conditions preparatory works provided by the “Sibregiongazstroy” have been made on due term and with good quality, and let drillers of the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC to start the works according to work schedule.

Specialists of the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC has shown a high degree of organizational preparation during execution of all stages of drilling works having managed to successfully complete the construction within the terms specified by the contract.

Within the period from March to June 2015 the “SP VIS-MOS” company has executed a set of works in construction of underwater crossings through the river Zhuravka and Beysug on the terms of subcontract for the project "Expansion of ESG for provision of gas supply to the gas pipeline “South Stream”. The customer in construction of the project was the "Gazprom invest" LLC, General contractor was the "Stroytransgaz" CJSC, the subcontractor in directional drilling was the "SP VIS-MOS" LLC. Design documentation was developed by the “GIPROSPEZGAZ” JSC Saint-Petersburg.

Crossings through the rivers Zhuravka and Beysug in the territory of Korenovsky and Bryukhovetsky regions of the Krasnodar Territory have included: arrangement of construction sites, installation of drill rigs, bottom pipe welding, hydraulic testing and insulation of a bottom pipe, installation of a bottom pipe into predrilled boreholes, cleaning and calibration test of pipeline cavity as well as cathodic polarization with consequent dismantling of equipment and land remediation.

The trajectory of borehole drilling under the river Zhuravka has made up 706 m, under the river Beysug – 1002 m. The bottom pipes of a pipeline 1420x25,8 mm in a polypropylene insulation 5 mm thick were pulled into a 1800 mm borehole using drill rigs PD-450/150 AM (river Zhuravka) and PD-500/150 (river Beysug). Pulling force by the pulling through process did not exceed 120 tons (at the rated force of 280 tons) and on the river Beysug - 350 tons (according to rated forces).

In connection with completion of construction works at the crossings through the rivers Zhuravka and Beysug we would like to note professional and qualitative approach of the "SP VIS-MOS" LLC in organization and execution of construction works at the project site, technical support of the project and quality control of the performed works.

Project site: "Reconstruction of underwater crossing of trunk pipeline ‘Mozyr – Brest’ DN800, main string through the river Ubort with replacement of pipes on the item km 59-60."

A response to the fulfilled work

In the period since January 11, 2016 to  11.01.2011 24.01.2016 the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC has executed construction of the main oil product pipeline on request of the "LOTOS" LLC, Mozyr, the Gomel region, the Republic of Belarus, through the river Ubort.

For construction of the crossing a 820x14 mm pipe with insulation made of three-layer coating 4 mm thick was used. Welding joints were insulated with shrunk-on rings of the TERMA STAR type. Drilling trajectory length was 838 linear meters.

Geological section along the profile of the crossing was presented by semigravel sands, gravel soil, low plastic sandy loam. Execution of works was complicated with the fact that strict requirements were claimed to precision of pilot hole construction so that the borehole profile was laid in a 25 m passage which borders were the existing oil product pipelines DN800.

The pulling process of one pipeline string has lasted for 8 hours.

All stages of the crossing’s construction over the river Ubort were completed by "SP VIS-MOS” LLC in compliance with design documentation, normative documents and terms of work performance specified in the contract that became possible thanks to high professional qualification of the personnel and technical equipment of the enterprise.

In 2014 the Tatneft JSC has started to realize a large-scale project in development of the Ashalchinskoe field of the Tatneft JSC within execution of the Russian Federation Government program “Energy Efficiency and development of energy sector” in respect to the subprogramme "Development of the oil industry", aimed at stabilization of oil production in Russia and according to perspective development plan, to increase production volumes of extra-viscous oil (bitumen).

As a result of the restricted tender held by the Tatneft JSC represented by the Directorate in realization of construction projects (URPS) in 2014 for selection of a contractor for drilling of inclined and horizontal wells at the Ashalchinskoe field, it was decided to attract to this project five companies with the necessary mobile drill rigs for directional horizontal drilling for a period of 2014 - 2020.

In 2014 and 2015 PRIME VERTICAL GmbH (Germany) has manufactured within the shortest time innovative, high-performance drill rigs of new generation that meets the requirements of inclined and horizontal wells drilling at the Ashalchinskoe field of extra-viscous oil field – mobile self-mobile modular machines with adjustable drive, inclined mast and rack-and-pinion surface power swivel transportation tool.

Multifunctional directional drill rigs (MDD) produced by the PRIME VERTICAL GmbH (Germany) with the following modifications: PV MDD 150/70L 01, PV MDD 150/70L 02, PV MDD 150/70 L 03 and PD MDD 200/70L are successfully applied for construction of inclined horizontal boreholes at the Ashalchinskoe field of extra-viscous oil in the Republic of Tatarstan since September 2014 with high technical and economic factors, high reliability and in-use performance. Using the MDD machines 53 directional wells have been drilled with a wellbore length of 627-1636 meters with the following achieved factors:

1. Average duration of construction of one well is 17.4 days.

2. Average commercial speed of one borehole drilling is 2260,7 m/rig-month.

3. Average time of relocation from one location to another – 24 hours.

4. Average time of relocation from one well cluster to another — 4 days.

The main features of the MDD machine are:

• High mobility (mobilization) and ease of assembly at low mobilization costs, (low costs for material, labour and time, in connection with compact modular container performance). Time for dismantling/installation within the well cluster – 24 hours;

• High efficiency and low specific metal content (at load capacity of a drill rig of 150-250 tons, the weight of a drill rig is 40-42 tons);

• The ability to build directional and horizontal wells with large bottom hole deviation vertically – up to 3000 meters at extremely small depths;

• Low cost of a high-power loading drill rig;

• High producibility and unique technical capabilities in comparison with inclined drill rigs on a polyspast basis, which are currently used for construction of inclined and horizontal wells, due to availability of inclined mast with rack-and-pinion surface tool for transportation of power swivel, that has an ability to create direct and reverse thrust of equal force;

• Short terms of MDD machine manufacturing. Manufacturing of a drill rig modification according to an individual order taking into account technical and technological solutions of borehole drilling project after approval of the order (technical assignment for delivery) takes 18-20 weeks.

Application of MDD machines of different modifications has wide potential possibilities for solving of the most important tasks of the oil-and-gas industry in Russia, including development of subsoil sections containing hard-to-recover oil reserves, coal bed methane, shale gas and oil, reconstruction of the old oil and gas wells by means of construction of directional wells - deviations with large difference of the wellbore vertically in respect to producing formation (subsurface drilling method).

Review of the executed contract works

Project site: “Drilling of horizontal wells on the fields of extra viscous oil of the Open Joint-Stock Company TATNEFT named after Shashin V.D.”.

The Open Joint-Stock Company TATNEFT named after Shashin V.D. has recruited the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC on the terms of contractor’s agreement in 2014 for drilling of horizontal wells on a turn-key basis on the fields of extra viscous oil of the Republic of Tatarstan in the amount of 200 pcs.

At present the drilling company “SP VIS-MOS” LLC works using 8 drilling complexes with rack-and-pinion drive produced by the German company Prime Vertical GmbH. Drilling of the first 50 wells was completed ahead of schedule.

The quality of rendered by the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC services meets the standards of the Open Joint-Stock company “TATNEFT”. Qualified production engineers provide qualitative and timely execution of the whole set of works. REVIEW OF THE WORK DONE

Project site: “Underwater crossing of the main gas pipeline through the river Lena for gasification of the Zarechnie Ulusy of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) (main line). Reconstruction of gas pipeline on the section PK88+50 – PK101”.

Since 10.02.2015 till 19.03.2015 the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC according to the subcontract agreement with the JSC "Sakhatransneftegaz" has built a crossing by the horizontal directional drilling method through the river Lena close to the settlement Pavlovsk located in 20 km upstream the city of Yakutsk.

The state customer was the Ministry of industry of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the construction customer was the JSC "Sakhatransneftegaz", the contractor in charge for bottom pipe preparation was the LLC GDK "Lensk-Gaz". The design documentation was developed by the Institute - LLC "Transnefteproduct" Omsk.

The length of drilling route has made up 1043,29 meters, borehole diameter after its expansion was 800 mm, a 530×16 mm pipe was used for the tightened bottom pipe. Polyethylene pipeline insulation 3,5 mm thick was made at a factory, and the insulation of welded joints was made by shrunk-on rings “Dirax” in field conditions.

The drilling complex PD-220/67 has worked at this project site. The process of bottom pipe pulling through into the expanded borehole lasted for 9 hours, at that traction power of the drilling complex at the initial stage of pulling through was 39 t and it has decreased gradually up to 25 t that indicates good condition of the prepared borehole.

The drilled soils were presented by fine to middle-sized sand, pebble gravel and siltstone in permafrost condition.

During the work performance the outdoor temperature has decreased up to minus 50 degrees.

Despite for geographical remoteness of the working area, complexity of equipment and materials delivery, weather conditions (flood hazard) the work at the project site has been fulfilled in due time within the contractual terms. Successful completion of the project owes to effective interaction between all participants of the construction process and efficient work organization. Insulation testing of the laid pipeline by the method of cathodic polarization has confirmed good quality of made work.

A review of the LLC "SP VIS-MOS"

Within the period from March to April 2015 the "SP VIS-MOS" LLC has performed the works in construction of the project site: “Gas pipeline from the AGRS "Urozhay-30" to the AGRS "Urozhay-25" installation of underwater crossings by the HDD method". The “SP VIS-MOS” LLC as a contractor organization has fulfilled the set of works in construction of a crossing of Ø219 mm product pipeline in a Ø426 mm protective casing through the natural obstacle: lake Okunevskoe, river Senzayakha, river Ayvasedo-Pur by the HDD method. The scope of works has included the works by the horizontal directional drilling and subsequent pulling through of a protective casing and service line of the prepared pipeline into the borehole. 

Staff of the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC has executed sufficient amount of works in construction of underwater crossing of a product pipeline by the HDD method in especially unfavorable climatic and geological conditions of the Yamalo - Nenets Autonomous district (with total length of 3286 meters).

The customer notes high qualification of the “SP VIS-MOS” personnel, modern equipment  of material and technical resources and drilling facilities PD 220/67 and PD 75/50, high production standards, effective and valid system of OHSE, environmental protection against negative impact of production processes.

All construction works at the project site: "Gas pipeline from the AGRS "Urozhay-30" to the AGRS "Urozhay-25" installation of underwater crossings by the HDD method" made by the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC were successfully completed near letter quality and within the established terms and with timely registration of necessary turnover documentation and permissions to the facility.

A review of the work done

In the period from February 28, 2015 till April 10, 2015 the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC has successfully completed the operating cycle in installation of oil pipeline through the river Indikyakha in the territory of the Tyumen region, the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous area, the Tazovsky district. The underwater crossing site is located in 430 km to the north-east from the city Novy Urengoy. At the moment of construction completion this crossing became the northernmost crossing made by the HDD technology in the territory of Russia.

The customer in construction of this facility was the “Gazpromneft-Razvitie" LLC, the “Messoyakha” branch. The General contractor in charge for construction of the crossing was the “Velesstroy” LLC that has coordinated construction and installation works, preparation of building sites for location of drilling complex, preparation of a bottom pipe to pulling through. The design documentation was developed by the “TumenNIPIneft” CJSC.

The length of the drilling route was 780 m. A 530*14 mm service pipeline covered with heat insulation PPU-100 MP before pulling through was placed in a 1020 x 16 mm steel protective casing and casing together with service pipeline was pulled into a Ø 1400 mm borehole.

Decision about combined pulling through of a protective casing with laid in it service pipeline has provided to solve two tasks at once: to reduce time for pulling through and to avoid the process of the pipeline string ballasting with water. Maximum traction power by pulling through didn’t exceed 120 tons.

In the crossing site the geological conditions were presented by permafrost soils: plastic frozen sandy loam, loam, clay, and fine sand in solidly frozen condition with high abrasive properties and temperature of minus 4 °C.

Geological conditions and length of the crossing has dictated special requirements to qualification of the team of drillers and properties of drilling fluid. That is why specialists of the "SP VIS-MOS" LLC possessing with extensive working experience in the Arctic have used special composition of drilling fluid which has provided to ensure safety of borehole walls and returns of drilled cuttings outside throughout the whole process of drilling and pulling through.

REVIEW OF THE WORK DONE

Project site: "Gas pipeline "Varyeganskaya pump station – Vyngapurovsky gas treatment plant. Crossing through the river Agrnyegan by the HDD method".

Within the period since 04.02.2015 to 09.03.2015 the "SP VIS-MOS" LLC has executed a set of works in construction of a gas pipeline through the river Agrnyegan by the HDD method at the project site: "Gas pipeline "Varyeganskaya pump station – Vyngapurovsky gas treatment plant". The set of works has included preparatory works in arrangement of building sites, welding and installation works, offshore pipeline testing, directional drilling works and subsequent pulling through into the prepared borehole.

The function of the Customer – investor has executed the JSC “SiburTyumenGaz”, the Customer was the LLC "Zapsibtransgaz", preparation of the design documentation was performed by the JSC  “NIPIgazpererabotka”. The functions of the general contractor has executed the LLC “NGSK”, the functions of contractor in construction of underwater crossing with execution of the whole set of works in preparation of offshore pipeline to pulling through has executed the "SP VIS-MOS" LLC.

The project site was located in unfavorable climatic zone of the Khanty-Mansiisk autonomous district close to the city Raduzhniy. The works by the horizontal directional drilling were complicated by the absence of an access road to the building site for expansion and welding of an offshore pipeline. Specialists of the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC have applied a non-standard way of the task decision that has provided to execute the works within the established terms.

The length of drilled borehole made up 415,8 meters, for the pulled offshore pipeline was used a 720x11 mm pipe. The works were made in soils of IV – V groups of drillability, the drilled out soil was presented by fine to medium sand. Borehole widening was made in 5 stages – 450 mm, 600 mm, 750 mm, 900 mm and 1070 mm.

On March 02, 2015 the Ø720 mm offshore pipeline 420 meters long was pulled into the prepared Ø1070 mm borehole. Polyethylene pipeline insulation 3.5 mm thick was made in plant conditions, and insulation of welded joints was made by shrunk-on rings DIRAX in field conditions. The process of offshore pipeline pulling through into expanded borehole has lasted for 5 hours with maximal traction power of 40 tons. The pulling through process was made by the РD 75/50 drilling facility made in Germany.

Testing of pipeline insulation made by the method of cathodic polarization has confirmed good quality of performed works.

Review of the work done

The "SP VIS-MOS" LLC on the terms of subcontract has successfully completed a cycle of works in oil pipeline installation through the channel Lokosovskaya in the territory of the Tyumen region, the KhMAD, Surgutsky district by the HDD method. The customer in construction of this facility was the "Transneft-Siberia" JSC. The General contractor in charge for construction of the crossing was the "Surgutskoe remontno-stroitelnoe upravlenie" LLC that has coordinated construction and installation works, preparation of building sites for location of drilling facility, and preparation of offshore pipeline for pulling through.

The length of drilled borehole was 600 m. The service line was 1020 x 14 mm in diameter.

Project site: "Technical re-equipment of existing main gas pipeline “Usa-Pechora” (Double-strand crossing through the river Usa by the HDD method)".

REVIEW OF THE WORK DONE

Within the period from January 28, 2015 to March 07, 2015 on the terms of special subcontract a double-strand gas transmission pipeline was successfully built through the river Usa in the Komi Republic by the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) method.

The project owner in construction of the facility was the “LUKOIL-KOMI” LLC (Usinsk city), the General Contractor was the GSI “Neftezavodmontazh” LLC (Volgograd city), the Contractor in construction of the crossing was the “Transstroyservis” LLC (Sosnogorsk city), special subcontractor in charge for horizontal directional drilling was the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC (Ulyanovsk city). The functions of General designer executed the PKI “Promproekt” LLC (Izhevsk city).

The length of drilling trajectory has made up 1561 running meters on the main strand, and 1564 running meters on the reserve strand. During construction of the crossing a 720x10 mm pipe with insulation made of extruded polyethylene was used.

Pilot holes before pulling of a bottom pipe were enlarged up to diameter of 1050 mm. A pulling through process on the main strand took 17 hours, and 15 hours on the reserve strand.

The works were made by the drilling facility 3000.9 (with traction power of 300 tons), at that pulling force didn’t exceed 135 tons on the main strand and 100 tons on the reserve strand, with the rated force of 280 tons foreseen by the project on each line.

Geological conditions were presented by coarse rich brown and gray brown water-saturated sand with inserts of gravel and single boulders up to 30%, yellow-brown clay sand, light fluid high plastic loamy soil, fine gray sand of middle size with inserts of gravel and pebbles up to 10%. Geological conditions demanded to apply in the process of borehole widening the barrel-shaped hole openers with rock cutting tools.

Despite for difficult logistic scheme in delivery of drilling equipment to the place of work performance, with reloading in Sosnogorsk on go-anywhere vehicles and two ice crossings through the rivers Pechora and Usa, as well as complicated weather conditions (within the period of work performance the ambient air temperature has dropped below minus 46°C), both strands of the gas pipeline crossing through the river Usa were made with good quality and within the agreed contract terms. Current weather conditions provided to do demobilization of the drilling complex by winter roads and ice crossings in due term before spring floods.

We note with satisfaction high-level organization of production as well as proper work level at the job sites. We haven’t found any deviations from contract requirements, specifications and design documentation.

Reference for the done work

 Within the period of September 15, 2014 to October 15, 2014 the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC (Ulyanovsk) acted as a subcontractor in execution of oil pipeline crossing’s construction (DN=1220 mm) within construction of the project site “Reconstruction of the sections of the main oil pipeline “Kuybyshev – Lisichansk” on the items 341,0 km – 353,0 km through the Pervomaisky channel and automobile roads” by the HDD method in the Marks city of the Saratov region. The drilling trajectory length of the borehole was 752 meters, borehole diameter before pipeline pulling through was 1600 mm.

The Customer of the project was the “Transneft - TSD” LLC, design documentation was prepared by the branch of the “Giprotruboprovod” JSC – “Samaragiprotruboprovod”. The General Contractor of the project was the Joint-Stock Company “SU-7 SMT”.

During this project the 6 staged pilot borehole widening was used: Ø 600, 800, 100, 1250, 1400, 1600 mm.

On November 11, 2014 the Ø 1220 mm the underwater pipeline was pulled into prepared Ø 1600mm borehole 752 mm long.

We on the part of the Joint-Stock Company “SU-7 SMT” note highly qualified personnel of the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC, modern equipment of material and technical resources and drilling complex PD 320/120, high production standards, effective and efficient HSEA system, environmental protection against negative influence of operating processes.

All works in construction of the oil pipeline crossing through the irrigating channel and automobile road by the HDD method made by the forces of the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC have been successfully completed with high quality, within the terms of work schedule and with timely registration of turnover as-built and permission documentation to this project site.

The “SP VIS-MOS” is one of the main and reliable subcontractors of the “Nova” LLC in execution of underground crossings by the horizontal directional drilling (HDD method) since 2008.

3. “Arrangement of the Termokarstovoe gas-condensate field for a period of commercial operation. Pipelines of external transport: gas pipeline of the Gas-condensate field Termokarstovoe – Gas-condensate field Khancheyskoe, condensate pipeline of the Gas-condensate field Termokarstovoe– Vostochno-Tarkosalinskoe field” - 11 724 linear meters.

During the period from February to April, 2014 the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC has executed the works in construction of the project site “Construction of the Yarudeyskoe field for a period of test operation. External transport. Oil pipeline. Gas pipeline”. The “SP VIS-MOS” LLC (Ulyanovsk) acting as subcontract organization has executed the full set of works in construction of product pipeline crossings (DN=377mm) in protection casings (DN=720 mm) through a natural obstacle (river Yarudey) by the HDD method. The set of works in arrangement of building sites for the crossings, the works by means of horizontal directional drilling and the subsequent pulling through of protective casings and service lines into prepared boreholes of underwater crossings.

Personnel of the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC has executed considerable amount of work in construction of underwater product pipeline crossings by the HDD method in extremely severe climatic and engineering geological conditions in the territory of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (1059 linear meters long) in the soils of the IV-V group of drillability in frozen condition.

Within the period from August 17, 2013 till October 14, 2013 the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC served as a Subcontractor in drilling works and has executed installation of two polyethylene pipelines of a sewage collector by means of HDD method on the project site: “Sewage collectors in the Central part of Sochi (4 sections), reconstruction. Bringing utility networks and service lines to the border of land property intended for location of Olympic facilities”. Section of the FGU “Sanatorium “Elektronika” for the workers of public prosecution bodies of the Russian Federation in the Khostinsky region”. The length of the drilling route was 652 meters, diameter of a borehole before pulling through was 762 mm.
Design documentation and functions of the General contractor has carried out the NPO “Mostovik”. The functions of the Customer-builder has carried out the municipal state city institution of Sochi "Capital construction agency".
Pipeline installation was made within the conditions of rough wooded country on the see shore and it was connected with considerable difficulties connected with caused by constrained conditions for location of drilling and process equipment on two sites, narrow roads and heavy accumulation of construction equipment and machinery used by other contracting companies in the territory of the sanatorium.
During implementation of the project special attention was paid to ecology. Due to fracturing and earth slides there was a danger of gryphon formation at the existing territory of sanatorium and towards the railway tunnel. To prevent pollution of the territory on two sites was placed cleaning equipment which has effectively and completely managed this task.
Rocks on the drilling route were mainly presented by low-durability dense, softened, fractured gray claystone with unixial compression break point up to 1,45 MPa with rare sublayers of gray sandstone with unixial compression break point up to 22,88 MPa. During execution of drilling works a high-tech drilling tool and innovative technologies providing to build the borehole successfully were used. Specialists of the “SP VIS-MOS” company have chosen correct drill mud to decide set task. To except drill mud filtration into the fractured soils and to provide circulation primary section of the pilot borehole 48 meters long was blocked by a steel casing Ø426 mm which was consequently dismantled.
  The 5 stages widening was used in this project – with hole openers 350mm, 457mm, 610mm, 762 mm.  
On October 14, 2013 two polyethylene pipes ?225 mm were pulled into the prepared borehole ? 762 mm 652 m long, thus maximum traction power of drill rig PD 75/50 didn’t exceed 15 tons.
We register a high technical level of the specialists of the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC and high level of the works organization on building sites allowing within the conditions of numerous rigid restrictions to execute all works in construction of the crossing qualitatively within the terms specified in the contract.

During implementation of the large-scale capital investment project of the “SIBUR” LLC in construction of the first stage of the project “Product pipeline “Purovsky ZPK – Yuzhno-Balykskaya head pumping station”, the functions of the Customer according to the project were fulfilled by the “Zapsibtransgaz” LLC, the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC (Ulyanovsk) as a contracting organization has executed the complete set of works in arrangement of the product pipeline crossings through natural and artificial obstacles by means of directional and horizontal directional drilling methods. The set of works has included preparatory works in arrangement of the sites of crossings, welding and installation works in production and examination of the bottom pipe of a pipeline, works in directional drilling method and consequent pulling of pipelines into prepared boreholes of underwater crossings, as well as works in horizontal directional drilling with arrangement of working and exit pits by execution of pipeline crossings by the press auger boring method.

During rather short period of time – since October 2012 till April 2013 – the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC has executed significant range of works in arrangement of underwater crossings of product pipeline by means of directional drilling method in the territory of the Khanty-Mansi and the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Areas of the Tyumen region in especially unfavourable climatic and engineering geological conditions (total length of 8177 linear meters) and crossings of product pipeline by means of horizontal directional drilling method using press auger boring machines through automobile and railway lines and intersections through passageways of the functioning engineering services (total length 1059 linear meters) in soils of IV-VI groups of drillability in frozen condition.

The underwater crossings of product pipeline (DN=530mm) were constructed by means of directional drilling method by the usage of high-production drilling facilities PD 450/150, PD 220/67 and PD 100/50 (manufactured in Germany) through the following rivers:

- the Inguyagun river - 642m long;

- the Kirill-Vysyagun river –437m long;

- the Pokomas channel - 545m long;

- the Bolshoy Yugan river - 475m long;

- the Tromyegan river (281 km) - 637m long;

- the Tromyegan river (219 km) - 520m long;

- the Voloktoyagun river – 466m long;

- the Yuganskaya Ob channel – 872.5m long;

- the Ob river – 1344m long;

- the Kharucheykha river – 437 m long;

- the Pyakupur river – 523m long;

- the Purpe river – 487 m long;

- the Tydeyakha river – 574 m long;

- the Khylmigyakha river – 217 m long.

Besides, the crossings of product pipeline were made in a protective casing for installation of product pipeline by means of directional drilling method (DN=810 mm, 251 m long) and cable networks through automobile and railway lines (DN=160 mm, 584 m long; DN=225 mm, 133 m long).

By means of horizontal directional drilling method (HDD) using press auger boring machines of increased capacity BARBCO (USA) and Perforator (Germany) were executed the works in arrangement of crossings of product pipeline in protective casings (DN=810 mm) through:

- the highway of the Kogalym–Yuzhno-Yuganskoe deposit 69 m long;

- the Ayka-Motyli railroad 101m long;

- the Khanymey–Muravlenko highway 90m long;

- the Noyabrsk-Topumey railroad and the Noyabrsk-Khanymey highway 106 m long;

- the Noyabrsk-Vyngapurovsky highway 64 m long;

- passageway of the functioning engineering services 118 m long;

- functioning main oil pipeline 40 m long.

All planned works in arrangement of the crossings of product pipeline through natural and artificial obstacles made by means of directional and horizontal directional drilling methods were executed successfully by the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC with high quality, within specified by the schedule of the works execution terms and by the timely registration of necessary  hand-over executive and permissive documentation to the facility.

During the period from September 07, 2012 to September 12, 2012 the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC has constructed the crossing through the Oka river by means of directional drilling method as the subcontractor in drilling for the cable communication line.

The Customer was “Svyaztransneft” OJSC, the contractor was “PremiumTekhnoKom” LLC.

The place of the works execution was located on the boarder between the Lukhovitsky abd Kolomensky regions of the Moscow region.

Into the drilled borehole 510 linear meters long were laid three PE pipes Ø110 mm, in which then were pulled cables of fiber-optic communication line.  

Formations of the third and fourth category of drillability were presented by sandy and argillaceous formations with inserts of pebble.

All stages of works in construction of the crossing of cable communication line through the Oka river were executed by the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC according to the requirements of design documentation, normative documents and terms of the works execution, specified in the contract that became possible thanks to high professional qualification of the personnel and good equipment capability of the enterprise.

Reference on the executed work

In the period from March 12, 2012 to September 27, 2012 the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC acting as special subcontractor has executed the crossing of oil pipeline through the Chelbas river by the directional drilling method (HDD), as well as by means of press auger boring method, 11 crossings under automobile and railway roads in the territory of the Krasnodar Territory. The investor of the project sites’ construction was the “Chernomortransneft” OJSC, the Customer of the construction was the “RN-Krasnodarneftegaz” LLC, the general contractor was the “DSMU-Gazstroy” LLC, and the general designer was the “NIPI “InzhGeo” ZAO.

The works in the oil pipeline crossing’s construction by means of directional drilling method through the Chelbas river continued for 21 days (March 26, 2012 till April 16, 2012), pipeline diameter was 720 mm, HDD borehole length was 423 linear meters.  The drilling facility PD 220/67 was used by the construction, traction power was less than 30 tons, the pulling through process has taken 4 hours. The geology on the borehole trajectory was presented by formations of the II-III category in drilling capacity.

On the crossings of oil pipeline the service line Ø720mm under automobile and railroads was laid in a casing made of steel pipe ? 1020 mm. Total length of crossings made by press auger boring method was 771 linear meters, and total quantity of crossings was 11. Maximal length of one crossing was 152 linear meters, minimal length was 29 linear meters. Duration of execution of the longest crossing was 24 days, and the smallest was 3 days.

The general contractor – “DSMU-Gazstroy” LLC has prepared building sites for the work of HDD and press auger drilling facilities, start and receiving trenches, executed all welding and insulation works, as well as hydraulic tests.

A set of unforeseen delays in the course of the works execution made by press auger boring method has arisen because of necessity to make re-coordination of technical conditions for the crossings of railway roads.

Thanks to well-coordinated work of the General contractor – “DSMU - Gazstroy” LLC and special subcontractor in drilling activities – the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC – all crossings of the oil pipeline through the Chelbas river, automobile and railway roads were made in specified by the subcontract agreement terms and with good quality of works.

During the period from 27.08.2012 to 01.10.2012 the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” has executed construction of pipeline crossing through the river Podkumok by the HDD method with diameter 720x16 and length of 516,7 linear meters. The Investor of construction was the OJSC “Transneft”, the Customer of the project construction was the OJSC "Chernomortransneft”, the general contractor was - "SpetsTruborovodStroy", the contractor in HDD – “SP VIS-MOS” LLC.

The region of construction is situated in the territory of the Stavropol Territory, in the foothills of Big Caucasian ridge. The soils in the place of the borehole construction mainly consisted of heavy low-plastic clay with layers enriched with broken sea shells extremely viscous, from the Apsheron’s horizon. But from the entrance and exit points there were layers of pebble soil of magmatic and metamorphic formations with sandy filler less than 30%, with rare large pebble in the size up to 20 cm, of alluvial genesis having capacity respectively 2,7m (length of the borehole section of 19,4 linear meters) and 6,3 m (length of the borehole section of 60 linear meters).

Widening of the borehole was executed up to diameter of 1000 mm, maximal pulling force by the pulling didn’t exceed 100 tons.

We note high technological level of the “SP VIS-MOS” experts, proper level of the works organization on the building sites, competently chosen drilling techniques that allowed to complete all works on construction of the crossing with high quality and within the terms specified in the contract.

There were no deviations from requirements of the contract, specifications and project documentation.

Project: “Pipeline system Eastern Siberia - Pacific Ocean” – section of NPS “Scovorodino” – SMNP “Kozmino” (VSTO - II). ABK DAO MN, RNU, ZRS and BPO. KEU, LES. Communication projects”. FOCL construction on the section from RM to RNU, city Dalnerechensk.

Theme: Cable crossing through an open cut and automobile road to the country sites on the item 4,95 km on the route RM - RNU with the length of 187 linear meters by the HDD method – cable crossing through an open cut on the item 0,33 km on the cable route to ZRS and BPO, with the length of 302 linear meters by the HDD method.

Review of fulfilled work

During the period from 27th of March 2012 till 14th of April 2012 the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” has executed the works in laying of two sections of casings (187 and 302 linear meters long) for FOCL cables by the HDD method.

The OJSC “AK Transneft” was an investor of construction, the LLC “Yunitel Group” was the contractor, and the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” was the contractor in HDD works.

There were two crossings done:

- Crossing through an open cut and automobile road where the HDD section was 187 linear meters long, diameter of steel casing was 159 mm and diameter of polyethylene casings was 2x63 mm
- Crossing through an open cut where the HDD section was 302 linear meters long with similar design of casing (two polyethylene pipes in steel pipe).

Soils on the route of drilling up to the depth of 20 meters were presented by massive of pebble stone of VII category in drilling capacity. Considerable difficulties by the drilling were created by the existence of pebble stone massive which could result in clamping strap and break of drilling tool.

By the crossings construction the offer of the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” was realized in laying of steel casing DN 159 and two polyethylene casings DN 63 by the method “two pipes in one pipe” that guaranties an integrity of FOLC cable by the pulling into p/e casing, as well as reliable work of cable for the whole period of operation.

Despite the above designated technological difficulties, the works in laying of casings were executed in defined by the contract terms and in full accordance with project documentation.

Review of executed work

Within the period from February 13, 2011 to May 11, 2011 on request of the OJSC “Sibtransnefteprodukt”, Omsk city, the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” has executed installation of main and reserve lines of oil pipeline through the Ob river, as well as crossing of the same oil pipeline through an artificial lake. For the crossings’ construction a pipe 530 x 14 mm with insulation made of free-layers polyethylene coating 4 mm thick was used. Welded joints were insulated with Dirax shrunk-on rings. The drilling route length of each line was 1258 running meters, the length of the crossing through an artificial lake was 522 running meters. In the geological profile prevailed semi-gravel and gravel soils, low-plastic loamy soils.  The works were complicated so that the difference between entrance and exit items of pilot borehole made 31 m.

Also the increased requirements were shown to the accuracy of pilot hole drivage so that the lower horizontal part of the borehole profile has passed in a narrow two-meter passage of middle sized sand where the underlayer were gravel sands and cover layer were gravel soils with fractions having size up to 80 mm.

The process of pulling through of one string of pipeline into the borehole proceeded for 12 hours, and maximal pulling power didn’t exceed 70 tons. All stages of works in construction of the crossings through the river Ob were executed by the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” in accordance with the requirements of design documentation, normative documents and within the terms of the works execution specified in the contract that became possible thanks to high professional qualification of the personnel and technical equipment of the enterprise.

During the period from August 13, 2012 to August 16, 2012 the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC has constructed the crossing through the Moskva river by means of directional drilling method as the subcontractor in drilling for the cable communication line.

The Customer was “Svyaztransneft” OJSC, the contractor was “PremiumTekhnoKom” LLC.

The place of the works execution was located on the boarder between the Southern and South eastern regions of the Moscow city.

Into the drilled borehole 300 linear meters long were laid two PE pipes Ø110 mm for consequent installation of the cables of fiber-optic communication line.  

Formations of the third category of drillability were presented by argillaceous formations with inserts of sand.

All stages of works in construction of the crossing of cable communication line through the Moskva river were executed by the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC according to the requirements of design documentation, normative documents and terms of the works execution, specified in the contract that became possible thanks to high professional qualification of the personnel and good equipment capability of the enterprise.

The Russian- German Joint Venture "JV VIS-MOS" has been working on the construction of the OJSC "GAZPROM" project since 1994. For this project, the Venture carries out pipeline crossings through the water obstacles.

1. The crossing under the river Samara. The main pipeline Mocrous-Samara-Tolyatty with diameter 720mm.

• The main gas pipeline with a length of 336 m;
• The reserve gas pipeline with a length of 334 m.

2. The gasification of the Astrakhan Region. The gas pipelines under rivers, channels, railway lines and roads.

• The total length of pipelines - 20843m.
• The diameter of the gas pipelines from 114 to 325mm.
• The length of one pipeline from 100 to 800mm.

The main advantage of the using the Horizontal Directional Drilling method through water obstacles is the conservation of the natural flow of the body of water. This fact conforms to heightened environmental requirements and is of great importance for the pipeline's crossing under rivers with a developed fishing industry.

The regional institutions of works inspectorate and the conservancy have no complaints about the quality and the technology of production of the work the Venture has done within the territory of the Astrakhan Region.

3. The trunk pipeline "Pochinky- Isobilnoe - North Caucasus" with a diameter of 1420mm. The gas pipeline under the Volga-Don channel:

• The main gas pipeline with a length of 860 m;
• The reserve gas pipeline with a length of 860 m.

This crossing has is so unique, there are no rivals. The assembly testing of the pulled pipelines presented with the insulation in a good state and the high work quality was evident.

4. The gasification of the Orlovskaya Region. The gas pipelines under the rivers, bogs, railway lines and roads.

• The total length of pipelines - 7227m.
• The diameter of the gas pipelines from 63 to 530mm.
• The length of one pipeline from 20 to 400mm.

The crossings in the Orlovskaya Region were been built for the short term and has allowed gas to flow to remote areas of the Region.

The remarks about the quality of performed work are absent.

Review of the executed work on the project site “Construction of gas pipeline “Dzhubga – Lazarevskoe - Sochi” (sea variant) within the limits of productivity increase”

In the period of October 2009 - November 2010 the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC has fulfilled the works on construction of the crossings on 5 sections of gas pipeline using the horizontal directional drilling method (HDD). The investor of construction was “GAZPROM” OJSC, the customer was “PiterGas” LLC, the general contractor was “SGM” LLC. Drilling on all sections was conducted in the preserved zone of the Black sea coast and was carried out in strict limits of environmental protection that has allowed to save natural landscape and ecological balance on the site.

All crossings were distinguished by the increased complexity level but each one was unique in its own way. 4 crossings of the type “land to sea” were fulfilled and one crossing “land to land”.
- The section “Dzhubga” – steel casing ? 762 x 25,4 mm, total length of 901 m, entrance angle 23°, level difference of 130 m, drilling was made by the drilling facility PD 450/150 AM;
- The section “Tuapse” – two parallel bore holes, the works were conducted simultaneously;
- Tuapse (entrance) – steel casing ? 762 x 25,4mm, 740m long, entrance angle 17°, level difference of 88 m, drilling facility 3000.9;;
- Tuapse (exit) – steel casing ? 762 x 25,4mm, 740m long, entrance angle 17°, level difference of 88 m, drilling facility PD 220/67;
- The section “Novomikhaylovskoe” – steel casing ? 325 x 10mm, 615m long, entrance angle 15°, level difference of 60 m, drilling facility PD 220/67;
- The section “Kudepsta” – steel casing ? 762 x 25,4mm, 1260m long, entrance angle 3°, level difference of 200 m, drilling facility PD 220/67

Soils on these sections were composed of claystone, siltstone and marl (having uniaxial compression breaking point up to 55 Mpa) as well as hard sandstone having a breaking point up to 70 Mpa. Pilot hole drilling was made by means of spiral mud motor and 3-cutters drill bit for hard-rocks ?251 mm. Increased difficulties by the drilling have occurred because of the zones of increased fracturing of rock formation that has lead to sudden loss of drilling fluid, its absorption and danger of drilling tool cramping. To prevent drilling mud losses we had to execute repeated cementation of HDD bore holes using sulfate-resistant cement. Despite that fact on the section ‘Dzhubga’ we didn’t manage to achieve drilling mud restore circulation and unique engineering decision on drilling of relief (unloading) hole in close proximity to the shore line of sea water that has allowed to achieve partial drilling fluid circulation. On the section “Kudepsta” (land to land) there was made an engineering decision to drill the pilot hole “from the bottom upwards” with level difference more than 200 m.

Phased reaming of bore holes on the crossings of the type “land - sea” was made using the method “from itself” that means from the drill rig situated on land using a set of hard-rock reamers having the following diameters – 610mm, 762 mm, 914 mm, 1066 mm.

Pulling through of the working strings ?530x15 mm in the prepared cases has been made by the usage of drill rig 3000.9 from the sea side, on the crossings “land to sea” and from the upper platform on the crossing “land to land”. Welding of the working string and installation of guiding rings has been carried out stepwise, in the open sea on the pipe-laying barge. Subsequently it was pulled through by the drill rod string in a casing to the exit on the site.

It is also necessary to mention that construction of crossings on the project “Construction of gas pipeline “Dzhubga – Lazarevskoe - Sochi” (sea variant) within the limits of productivity increase” has noticeably expanded the possibilities and technologies of the HDD method, and it has also given to the specialists of the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” a unique operational experience. Innovation combination of two methods - HDD and thrusting, enhancement of the HDD technology, application of new drilling tools, technical devices and realization of non-standard decisions has given a chance to decide this unique engineering task in Russia for the first time.

Despite all the troubles within the construction the specialists of the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” have successfully decided all designated tasks and executed all the works in full accordance with signed contractor’s agreement.

During the period from February 17, 2012 till March 16, 2012 the LLC "SP VIS-MOS" has executed the tightening of four sections of casing jacket for fiber-optic link cables by the directional drilling method:

1. A pipeline system "Eastern Siberia - the Pacific Ocean", section of the oil pumping station "Skovorodino" - SMNP "Kozmino" (VSTO - II). Communication system. Fiber-optic link. Laying, installation and protection of the cable on the site NRP-7-US NPS-38 and branches to the communication port cabins and control and monitoring station. Crossings through the river Bolshaya Malinovka, Bolshaya Ussurka, Ussuri using directional drilling method.

2. A pipeline system "Eastern Siberia - the Pacific Ocean", section of the oil pumping station "Skovorodino" - SMNP "Kozmino" (VSTO - II). Communication system. Amurskaya oblast. Crossing arrangement through the river Bureya using the directional drilling method.

The OJSC "AK Transneft" was the investor of this construction, the general contractor was LLC "Transneftstroy", the contractor in directional drilling was the LLC "SP VIS-MOS". In total 4 crossings were laid there:

• the river Bolshaya Ussurka with diameter of steel casing 159 mm, diameter of polyethylene casing 2x63 mm, length of HDD sections - 226 and 372 linear meters (two bore holes);
• the river Bolshaya Malinovka with diameter of steel casing 159 mm, diameter of polyethylene casing 2x63 mm, length of HDD section - 159 linear meters;
• the river Ussuri with diameter of steel casing 159 mm, diameter of polyethylene casing 2x63 mm, length of HDD section - 277 linear meters;

The soils on the route of drilling up to the depth of 20 meters were presented by a solid of pebbles (pebble bigger than 80mm) with sandy filler, saturated with water. Execution of the HDD works through the river Bolshaya Usssurka was complicated due to existence in a pebble gravel of 10% of boulders 1 meter in diameter. Pebbles and boulders have formed from sandstone with breaking stress on uniaxial compression up to 180 MPa, VII-IX categories of drillability. The existence of pebble stone has created considerable difficulties by the drilling that could result in sticking of drilling tool.

Also the crossing through the river Bureya was made in the period from May 03, 2012 till May 11, 2012. The length of the crossing is 573 linear meters.

Horizontal section having length of about 400 m by the drilling trajectory of a pilot hole has passed in hard solid claystone-like loam of IV category of drillability, and on the entrance sections (120m) and exit sections (52m) the bore hole passed through a pebble gravel of VII category of drillability.

Geological conditions on the crossings through 4 rivers have demanded an updating of structural scheme of the casing structure. The proposal of the LLC "SP VIS-MOS" to lay the steel casing DN 159 and two polyethylene casings DN 63 by the method "two pipes in one pipe" was realized that guaranties the integrity of the fiber-optic link cable by the tightening into the polyethylene casing as well as reliable work of a cable in the period of operation.

Despite all above mentioned technological difficulties, the works in laying the casings were fulfilled within the terms defined by the contract and in full accordance with the project documentation.

From July to September 2011 LLC "SP VIS-MOS" elaborated construction documentation for the intersection of pipelines Dy 800 mm of the Lodochnay (7 and 20 kilometers) and Russkaya (69 kilometer) Rivers by the horizontal directional drilling method.

The construction documentation was elaborated by contractor's agreement with the General Designer of GSE Starstroy-Engineering LLC that in short time undertook endorsement in the services of ZAO "Vankorneft", which allowed starting construction in proper time.

The route of the pipeline is located at the 68th parallel north of the Arctic Circle, near Tyumen Oblast and Krasnoyarsk Krai in the zone of permafrost. Geographic location of the construction area forced to make nonstandard engineering solutions to minimize anthropogenic impact on the environment.

All arising technical questions were promptly considered and decided within one construction season. From October 2011 to February 2012 crossings of the pipeline were not only delivered to the Customer, but drilling facilities of the horizontal directional drilling were taken to the continent.

In July-September 2011 the LLC "SP VIS-MOS" on the terms of special subcontract has carried out a scope of works in construction of the underwater crossings in the passage of pipelines through the river "Bolshaya Kheta" on the project site: "Arrangement of the Vankorskaya group of deposits with the system of external oil transport by the constructions of junction point to the system of main oil pipelines of the OJSC "AK Transneft" using HDD method".

The HDD passage through the river "Bolshaya Kheta" consisted from:

• two lines of oil- and gas pipelines of diameter 720 mm in protective casing of diameter 1220 mm, having the following length: Main line - (length of the HDD bore hole - 747,12 m); Reserve line - (length of the HDD bore hole - 743,45 m);
• two lines of high pressure waterway of diameter 462mm in protective casing of diameter 820 mm, having the following length: Main line 1 - (length of the HDD bore hole - 626,17 m); Main line 2 - (length of the HDD bore hole - 628,03 m).

The territory of the works fulfillment is situated in the zone of performance of works settled down in a distribution zone of everfrost grounds belonging to the group of specific grounds. Under natural conditions they possess high strength properties. Their mechanical characteristics are compatible with corresponding characteristics of half-rock grounds. Main part of drilling passed through the sites of ever-frozen grounds with high abrasive characteristics of formations. Works have been made mainly in formations consisting from frozen water-saturated sand of small and average coarseness, here and there with shingle.

The works on the pilot hole drilling were fulfilled, it was periodically expanded to the diameter of 1600mm and protective and working pipelines were pulled through in the expanded bore hole. Drilling tool used for the bore hole drilling was equipped with special rock crashing accessories and drill mud with high rheological characteristics. To decrease thawing of the everfrost grounds in places of the casing transfer through the underwater crossing working pipes with increased thermal covering 100mm thick were used. Specialists of the LLC "SP VIS-MOS" have correctly chosen the technology and drilling practices that has allowed to fulfill successfully the planned works with big advance of the schedule in a relatively short time. It is also necessary to note the efficiency in mobilization of the production facilities to the place of the works fulfillment.

We specify with satisfaction good organization of production, and also adequate level of works on the installation sites. The LLC "SP VIS-MOS" has fulfilled all works in construction of the crossing with high quality and in the specified terms. There were no deviations from requirements of the contract, specifications and design documentation.

Response for the executed work in placement of steel casing of diameter 1020mm and 322,6 m long under the rail road lines of the exchange points on the main oil pipeline "Yaroslavl - Kirishi-1", PC 48+9,35/ PC 52+15.

Construction of the given crossing represented a rather difficult engineering problem so that the works should be made in the conditions of constantly operating multiple-track railway on the one hand and in formations consisting of waterlogged semi-gravel sands (quicksands) including boulders and pabbles - on the other hand.

Therefore the contractor LLC "SP VIS-MOS" was attracted to the project site as a proved executor of the most difficult crossings by means of the HDD method on the domestic market.

To prevent failures and subsidence of railways the experts of the LLC "SP VIS-MOS" have used a method of the casing pulling through together with approaching reamer and cuttings removal from the side of drill rig.

Drilling works have been started on 11th of October 2011 and on 1st of November 2011 the casing pulling through has been already finished. Working oil pipeline 720mm was placed in a casing on the 4th of November 2011.

All set of works in construction of this crossing was fulfilled by the contractor on a high technical and organizational level.

In June – July 2010 on the terms of a subcontract "JV VIS-MOS" LLC performed successfully a series of work of laying two gas pipelines across the river Oka using the method of horizontal directional drilling on the territory of Nizhny Novgorod according to the object of a program of “Gazpromregiongaz” OJSC gas supply facility reconstruction and technical reequipping: “Gas pipeline that includes 54 gas distribution substations Nizhegorodskaya oblast, Nizhny Novgorod, Avtozavodsky, Leninsky, Kanabinsky districts (pipe canal across the river Oka)”, inventory number 23814-1.

The contractor of the building pipe canal crossing was a company “Tempobur” that was preparing building areas to the process of HDD, coordinated construction and assembly work, and also supported relationships with other contractors that performed civil and erection works.

The length of the main underwater line along the drilling path was 1 186 rm, reserve line – 1 175 rm, drilling works were executed in several steps with gradual expansion to 400, 600, 800 and 1000 mm. During the execution of drilling works there was abutting of rock-destruction tool against the shore protection steel sheet wall that was not specified in examination materials. In order to escape a current precondition for emergency situation it was necessary to make technical decisions and to relocate the drilling complex.

The work was executed in straitened urban conditions, ground elevation difference in inlets and outlets of the pilot rock drill was 73 m, geological conditions and the crossing extension dictated special requirements to the professionalism of drilling personnel and characteristics of drilling mud, but despite of organizational and technological difficulties the crossing was finished in time, in full accordance with project documentation and prevailing conditions.

Isolation integrity checking carried out according to the method of cathode polarization showed a good condition of the pipeline isolation after pulling.

During the period from 20 July 2010 to 25 August 2010 on the terms of a subcontract "JV VIS-MOS" LLC performed successfully a series of work of laying pipelines across the river Pyako-Pur using the method of directional drilling on the territory of Tyumen Oblast in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in the Gubkinsky town area.

The general contractor of the reconstruction of the main pipeline crossing across the river Pyako-Pur was “Transneftstroy” LLC, subcontractors – “KSU Sibnefteprovodstroy” LLC that performed mechanical works and IPSK “NGS-Gempobur” LLC together with "JV VIS-MOS" LLC that performed directional drilling.

In the crossing range geological conditions were represented with medium-sized sands, some interlayers were small, middle-density, uniform, waterlogged, including gravel up to 10%.

K60 class steel pipe of a diameter 720x13 mm was covered with plant three-layered polyethylene isolation of type 4 in thickness 3 mm. Welded joints are isolated with shrunk-on rings of type 4 in field conditions.

The underwater line extension according to the drilling path was 1046,7 m and a borehole diameter before pulling the pipeline was 1000 mm. The pulling process lasted 9 hours, DВ-550 drilling facilities maximum pull did not exceed 80 tn.

Geological conditions and the crossing extension dictated special requirements to the professionalism of drilling personnel and characteristics of drilling mud, which was confirmed with failed efforts of laying crossing by a previous contractor using the directional drilling.

Specialists "JV VIS-MOS" LLC competed the crossing to schedule, fully in accordance with project documentation and conditions specified in the contract of work and labour.

Isolation integrity checking carried out according to the method of cathode polarization showed a good condition of the pipeline isolation after pulling.

In January 2009 there was finished the construction of one of the most complex object in gasification program of Tverskaya Oblast — submerged crossing in Ostashkov gas pipeline — ZATO Solnechny, village Svetlica — Svyatoe selo. The submerged crossing under the lake Seliger on the one hand shall provide reliability of gas pipeline, and on the other hand — not disturb ecology of this picturesque region. In order to meet both conditions it was decided to use technologies of directed drilling, which provide pipeline installation without disturbing existing relief.

During constructing under lake bed at depth of 23 — 24 m from water surface there were laid three branches of high pressure gas pipeline with diameter 159 mm and range more than 1840 m each. Crossings with so long range are not so common and difficult in hand as require special equipment and complete professionalism while handling it.

Geology of transit route was difficult. Onshore parts of route are made from fluviolacustrine watercut fine-grained and dust sands, occurring in glaciolacustrine sands and drift clays including large boulders, channel part is presented with thick mass of sand and silty-clayed glaciolacustrine drifts, occurring in drift clays.

During drilling of directional holes in order to preserve forests on the island from devastation and considering direction of laid pipe subway on existing glade, it was necessary to change handling route before setting to 400—m area and drive a pilot drill hole at the same time with knee in vertical planes and in plan.

Conducted work allowed not only finish the construction within the time periods specified in the agreement, but also cause minimal environmental losses to unique natural zone.

We note with pleasure good quality of organizing work on the construction site, and also proper level of construction and erection works. «JV VIS-MOS» LLC fulfilled its work regarding the crossing construction with high quality and on time. There were no qualification to contract requirements, specifications and project documentation done.

From February 2, 2010 to March 3, 2010 "SP VIS-MOS" LLC as a special subcontractor transferred in horizontal directional drilling way oil pipe across a river Kolva in the Komi Republic. The stile was located further north than polar circle, in the zone of permafrost soil distribution. The client of this object building was "Lukoil-Komi", and prime contractor was "Transstroyservice" LLC.

Path length of horizontal directional drilling was 724,4 rm, protective cover diameter - 530 x 8 mm and service line diameter - 273 x 9 mm.

Soil conditions along drilling path were represented with:

• brown soft-plastic loams with streaks of fluid-plastic;
• fluid-plastic and fluid loams with streaks of water-saturated sand;
• brown tight- and soft-plastic loams with pebbles and gravel stones up to 10-15%;
• tight- and soft-plastic clay.

The prime contractor - "Transstroyservice" LLC - prepared for work of DD-550 drilling complex erecting yards and did all welding work for installing pipe canal above ground, moreover the pipe was inside the cover.

The pipe canal pulling through process in aperture with diameter 800 mm lasted about 5 hours, and maximum pulling pressure of the drilling complex did not exceed 60 tones. While drilling pilot aperture the deflection of the boring head output point above ground from project output point did not exceed 20 cm.

Due to well coordinated work of the prime contractor - "Transstroyservice" LLC - and special subcontractor - "SP VIS MOS" LLC, and also good DD-550 drilling complex technique the stile was done on terms mentioned in the contractor's agreement and in a quality manner.

Appraisal in regard to completed works

Site: oil-pipeline Ryazan-Moscow. Defected parts replacement by the HDD method at the arterial pipeline`s underwater crossing (APUC) under the Pakhra river (near the Volodarsky settlement, Moscow).

Within the period from September 17 to November 01, 2005 the JV VIS-MOS, LLC successfully tunneled the oil-pipeline 530 x 14 mm (APUC Ryazan-Moscow) under the Pakhra river (Volodarsky working settlement, Moscow) using the horizontal directional drilling method. The drilling trajectory was 714 linear meters long, and the borehole`s diameter, before pipe jacking, was 1000 mm.

At the lower part of the APUC (approximately 580 linear meters long) the borehole was laid through the eluvium of calcareous bedrocks in forms of limestone and hard-fractured cavernous dolomites, both medium-strong and strong. Single-axial compression strength was 80…160 MPa. The rocky breeds were covered with layers of clay up to 4.0 m, and sand up to 7.0 m.

The pipe was insulated at the factory with a 5 mm layer of extruded polyethylene. The insulation of welded joints was made at the site with the Dirax-type heat-shrinking collars.

The process of the pipeline jacking took 6 hours; the drilling plant`s pulling force was less than 60 tons. The cathode polarization method of the pipeline insulation showed that the insulating coating remained in good condition after the pipeline was installed.

On the land surface, there were neither typical karstic rocks outcrops of boring grout (gruphons) nor was there penetration into the river-channel. The achieved effectiveness of the boring grouts` application reflects the professional choice of their composition.

It is interesting to say that as far back as 1989, under the same geological conditions, the first attempt of pipeline tunneling using the HDD method in Russia was under the Moscow river (5 km far from Volodarsky working settlement near the town of Myachkovo), which failed due to the lack of experience in horizontal directional drilling. The construction of the experimental/industrial crossing under the Moscow river was conducted by SOYUZPODVODTRUBOPROVODSTROY with the curatorship of the USSR State Committee for Science and Technology.

Site: oil-pipeline Ryazan-Moscow. Defected parts replacement by the HDD method at the arterial pipeline`s underwater crossing under the Severka river.

Within the period from August 28 to September 08, 2005 the JV VIS-MOS, LLC successfully tunneled the oil-pipeline 530 x 14 mm (APUC Ryazan-Moscow) under the Severka river (Moscow region) using the horizontal directional drilling method.

The drilling trajectory was 435 linear meters long, and the borehole`s diameter before pipe jacking was 1000 mm.

At the lower part of the APUC cross section (approximately 300 linear meters long) the borehole lay through the eluvium of calcareous bedrocks in forms of limestones and fine-grained fractured cavernous dolomites. The single-axial compression strength was 50…120 MPa. The rocky breeds were covered with a layer of limestone, dolomits' gruss and rock debris, which ran about 15-20 linear meters along the borehole. The surface had a layer of loams 8 meters thick.

The pipe was insulated at the factory with 5 mm layer of extruded polyethylene. The insulation of welded joints was made with the Dirax- type heat-shrinking collars.

The very process of the pipeline jacking took 3 hours; the drilling plant`s pulling force was less than 40 tons. The cathode polarization method of the pipeline insulation showed that the insulating coating remained in good condition after the pipeline was installed.

On the land surface, there were no typical karstic rocks outcrops of boring grout(gruphons). Also, even under the hard conditions of unsteady broken ground, no collapse or downfold of the borehole arch was detected. This was the result of a skillful choice of the boring grout`s composition.

The high professional level of the JV VIS-MOS, LLC boring teams was once again proven by this project.

Review of the work completed by LLC " JV VIS-MOS" on the major overhaul of the gas pipeline Pochinki-Isobilnoe. The crossing under the Volga-Don channel.

In November-December 1995, "JV VIS-MOS" laid the housing for a telecommunications cable with a diameter of 219mm and a length of 740m. In November, the company completed the pipeline crossing, with a diameter of 1420mm and a length of 740m, under the Volga-Don channel using the Horizontal Directional Drilling Method (HDD).

"JV VIS-MOS" carried out the work with the most powerful Drilling Rigs: the 3000.9(Germany) and the DD-160(USA).This is amazingly powerful equipment, yet had minimal impact on the landscape and maintained the ecological integrity of the area. By using these drilling rigs, not only was time reduced, but there was a significant reduction in the technology needed in construction. A computer was used to control the process of the pilot hole drilling and the laying of the pipeline, thereby further guaranteeing a high accuracy rate and assured compliance with project specifications.

One important advantage of the HDD-Method is that a pipeline can be installed at an active site with little or no disruption of site activities.

The testing of the built pipelines registered a high fettle of insulation and the high quality of work, which were carried out using the Horizontal Directional Drilling Method.

PJSC "GIPROTRUBOPROVOD" is the subsidiary of PJSC "SC "TRANSNEFT", which makes design works for the oil pipeline's construction.

From 1996 to 2000, "JV VIS-MOS" has carried out a number of underwater crossings for oil pipelines using the Horizontal-Directed Drilling Method in accordance with the designs of PJSC "GIPROTRUBOPROVOD".

1. Crossing for the main oil pipeline Surgut- Polozk under the Kerhzenez river, diameter 1020mm, length 400m.

2. Crossing for the main oil pipeline Gorkij- Rjazan under the Moksha river, 2 branches

• diameter 530mm, length 415m.
• diameter 720mm, length 415m

3. Major repair of the oil pipeline Gorkij-Jaroslavl. The crossing under the Oka river, diameter 820mm, length 1238 m.

4. Oil pipeline Jaroslavl-Kirishi. The crossing under the Kotorosl river, diameter 720mm, length 389 m.

5. Oil pipeline Gorkij-Jaroslavl. The crossing under the Kljasma river, diameter 820mm, length 410 m.

6. Oil pipeline Rjasan- Moscow. The crossing under the Oka river, diameter 530mm, length 731 m.

7. Oil pipeline Jaroslavl-Kirishi. The crossing under the Volga river, diameter 720mm, length 685 m.

8. Oil pipeline Surgut- Polozk. The crossing under the Volga river, diameter 1020mm, length 690 m.

The rigs that were used were the DD-160T (USA) and the 3000.9 (Germany).

The crossing construction was carried out in accordance with the project design.

The tool control of laid oil pipeline's insulation showed a conformance of normative requirements.

Appraisal of work on an undercrossing`s construction

Pursuant to the order of the KAVKAZTRANSGAZ, LLC (the Republic of Karachai-Circassia) within the period from January 8, 2005 to March 28, 2005 JV VIS-MOS, LLC tunneled a 1603 meters-long oil-pipeline borehole using the horizontal directional drilling method 530 under the landslide area of the Ovechka river.

Argillaceous, flat-bedded heavy clays with marl intercalations at the foot area prevailed at the geological cross section along the borehole of the tunnel. The areas of the pilot borehole`s inlet and outlet were composed with pebbly soils of magmatic and metamorphic rocks with isolated boulders, which thickness was 5 meters near the pilot borehole`s inlet, and 9.5 meters near its outlet.

The works were complicated by the presence of pebbly areas and argillaceous clays with marl intercalations and, also, by a sufficient difference between the levels of the borehole inlet point and the lower tunnel`s section (96 m). A special drill head had to be made, which was able to pass through laminated layers of heavy clays. In spite of a sizeable length of the tunnel and difficulties in hole`s widening in pebbly soils, the horizontal directed tunnel was successfully bored in strict compliance with the projecting and normative documents. All the works were completed within the period stipulated by the contract.

The very process of the pipeline jacking took 14 hours; the drilling plant`s pulling force was less than 80 tons.

The cathode polarization method of the pipeline insulation showed that the insulating coating remained in good condition after the pipeline was installed.

All the construction of the undercrossing were performed by our sub-contractor JV VIS-MOS, LLC at a high professional level.

Appraisal of work completed by LLC "JV VIS-MOS".

LLC "JV VIS-MOS" carried out the laying of the borehole for an oil pipeline, with a diameter of 1020 x 20mm, under the river Ob in the town of Surgut, using the Horizontal Directional Drilling Method. This was done in accordance with a subcontract with LLC "TEMPOBUR" from the period of April 15, 2004 to December 30, 2004.

The crossing construction consisted of 2 phases:

• Phase 1 - From April 15, 2004 to May 10, 2004 - the boring of the pilot hole and the widening of the hole to a diameter of 380mm.
• Phase 2 - The final widening of the hole and pulling of the pipeline lasted from October 20, 2004 to December 30, 2004.

The length of the bore hole was 1720m, the diameter of the hole before the pipeline pulling - 1600mm.

Geographically, the hole trajectory had alluvial sediments which consisted of heavy, loamy, wet sand with saturated dust sand of average density. Owing to a flood that took place in early 2004, the hole widening had to be halted. Because of the pause in work, a blockage occurred in the drill pipe line at 1250m. The process of releasing the line lasted one month (October 20-November 20, 2004), and the final hole widening (to the diameter 1600mm) lasted from November 20-December 25, 2004.

The boring, widening and pulling of the pipeline were each carried out in exact accordance with all requirements of the project contract and was completed by the original end date, in spite of the delay in work.

The insulation of the pipeline was manufactured from extruded polyethylene with a factory gage of 4.5mm. The insulation of welded seams was made by thermocontractable sleeve gaskets: "Dirax".

The process of laying the pipeline into the hole lasted about 23 hours, and the maximal pulling force of the drill rig was 170t.

The cathode polarization method of the pipeline insulation showed that the insulating coating remained in good condition after the pipeline was installed.

Each stage in the crossing construction was carried out by LLC "JV VIS-MOS" with the highest professional skills.

The high qualified personnel of the Venture and the good technical equipment allow to this company to build large pipeline crossings utilizing all the advances in HDD.

An appraisal in regards to the work performed by the LLC "SP VIS-MOS" for the STROYTRANSGAS, PJSC LLC "SP VIS-MOS" was established as a joint-venture by STROYTRANSGAZ, PJSC and the German firm "Bohlen-Doyen". Since 1994, more than 300 kilometers of pipeline crossings were constructed by the LLC "SP VIS-MOS" via the horizontal directional drilling method (HDD). Geographically, these projects were done in Russia, Germany, Greece, and India and were completed under difficult conditions and regardless of major obstacles such as rivers, swamps, railways and telecommunication lines.

The list of sites constructed by the LLC "SP VIS-MOS" on orders of STROYTRANSGAZ, PJSC is as follows:

1. Gazification of the Astrakhan region.

These were 100-800 meters long under river crossings. The total length was 27164 meters; The pipelines` diameters are 114-630 meters. Materials of pipelines: polyethylene, steel.

2. Gazification of Orel region.

These were 20-500 meters long crossings under highways, railways and rivers. The total length was 13532 meters; the pipelines` diameters are 114-530 meters. Materials of pipelines: polyethylene, steel.

Two years after installation both have remained trouble-free.

3. The Russia-Turkey export trunk pipeline ("Blue stream")

• The crossing under Ponoura river: 772 m long, 1420 mm
• The crossing under Raschevatka river: 676 m long, 1420 mm
• The crossing under Kochety-2 river: 700 m long, 1420 mm
• The crossing under Kouban river: 1420 m long, 1420 mm

The pipelines were expertly tunneled by drilling plants of German and American manufacturers. In spite of very hard working conditions at some drilling sites, the compound tests performed on the crossings have proven the excellent state of the insulation and the high quality of the workmanship.

In the crossing construction

LLC “SP VIS-MOS” installed a pipeline with a diameter of 530 mm from March 9, 2005 to April 4, 2005 under the river Ob by the HDD-method.

This crossing consisted of 2 pipelines: the main pipeline and the reserve pipeline. The length of the drill hole was 1612m, the diameter of the hole before the pipeline pulling -800mm.

On the geological section of the hole trajectory, there were alluvial sediments which consisted of saturated dust, sand and clay grounds. The work was further complicated by the level difference between the entrance point and the exit point. This difference averaged 55m. In spite of the great length of the project and the level differences between the entrance and the exit, the boring, widening and pulling of the pipelines were carried out in exact accordance with all the contractual requirements. The crossing was also completed within the projected timeline.

The insulation of the pipelines was manufactured from extruded polyethylene at the factory. The insulation of the welded seam was made on-site by the thermocontractable sleeve gaskets: the "Dirax".

The timeframe of laying of one pipeline into the hole was approximately 11 hours and the maximal pulling force of the drill rig was 80t.

LLC "SP VIS-MOS" carried out all the work stages in the crossing construction under the river Ob at a highly professional and technical level thanks to the qualified personnel and the technological specialty of this company.

Appraisal of work on the construction of an undercrossing.

As per the special subcontract between the Design and Construction Investment Company NGS-TEMPOBUR and the JV VIS-MOS, LLC, within the period from November 15, 2003 to March 29, 2004, the later had tunneled the oil-pipeline borehole (measuring 1020 x 18 mm) under the Ob river in the town of Malobragino (Tomsk region) using the horizontal directional drilling method (HDD).

The construction included two stages:

• Stage 1 - November, 2003 was the pilot tunnel drilling. It took only ten days to bore the pilot tunnel, but then work was halted due to the difficulties in the delivery of the materials and equipment to the work site; the construction site had swampy and marshy soils, which allowed work to occur only in the winter.
• Stage 2 - The main work: tunnel widening and pipeline jacking was performed from January 25, 2004 to March 29, 2004.

The drilling trajectory was 1540 linear meters long, and the tunnel diameter was 1500 mm before pipe jacking.

Alluvial deposits in forms of sandy loams, fine and semi-gravel sands, loams, clays and intercalations of pebbly soils, along with many natural barriers of trunks and roots at the geological cross section along the borehole of the tunnel.

In spite of the sizeable length of the tunnel and hard geological conditions, the horizontally directed tunnel was successfully bored and widened without any complications and in strict compliance with the contractual agreement.

The pipe was insulated at the factory with 3.5 mm layer of extruded polyethylene. The insulation of welded joints was made with Dirax-type heat-shrinking collars.

The pipeline jacking process took 22 hours; the pulling force of the drilling plant was less than 160 tons and, at the moment of the pipeline insertion into the tunnel, 80 tons.

The cathode polarization method of the pipeline insulation showed that the insulating coating remained in good condition after the pipeline was installed.

Thus, all the work on the construction of the Ob river under-crossing was performed by the JV VIS-MOS, LLC at a high professional level.

Review of executed work

Within the period from March 2009 to March 2010 the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” has executed a set of crossings of condensate pipeline under water obstacles in the territory of Yamalo-Nenetsky autonomous Area of the Tyumen region by the horizontal directional drilling method. The crossings of condensate pipeline Ø 426 mm were executed under the following rivers:

- the river Yamsovey (main and reserve lines) 327,5 linear meters each one;

- the river Nigibnebyayakha 302 linear meters long;

- the river  Khadutte (main and reserve lines) 885 lnear meters long each one;

- the river Enyakha – 29 km (main and reserve lines) 595 linear meters long each one;

- the river Enyakha – 41 km (main and reserve lines) 620 linear meters long each one;

- the river Evoyakha (main and reserve lines) 428 linear meters long each one;

- the river Yagenetta (main and reserve lines) 360 linear meters long each one;

- crossing through the rail road Korotchaevo – Novi Urengoy.

The region of construction is located in the Arctic zone of West Siberian flat land where everfrozen soils are widespread.

The boreholes ?600 mm for pulling through of the pipeline have passed in fine water-saturated sands of average density with inserts of gravel and pebble, but there were also the sections of plastic frozen clay, loamy soil and sandy solid frozen loam having stratified cryogenic structure.

It is necessary to mention high technological level of specialists of the LLC “SP VIS-MOS”, proper level of the works organization on building sites, competently chosen modes of drilling – all this has allowed to complete all the works in crossings construction on a high quality level and within the terms specified by the contract. There were no deviations from the contracts requirements, specifications and design documentation.

Work review of the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC

During the period from February 16, 2010 to March 05, 2010 the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC has executed gas pipeline crossing’s installation “Section 66,198 – 72,9 km” as a part of construction “Reconstruction of KGMO-1 on the section KS Noginsk – KS Voskresensk” through the artificial lake and automobile road in the region of Voskresensk city of the Moscow region by the HDD method. The length of the crossing on the drilling trajectory was 589 running meters, and borehole diameter after completion of its widening was 1600 mm.

The diameter of pulled bottom pipe was 1220 mm, pipeline wall thickness was 16 mm. Pipeline insulation was made from extruded polyethylene 3,5 mm thick, and welded joints insulation of the pipeline was made by shrunk-on rings of the Dirax type in construction conditions.

The borehole drilling trajectory have passed generally in low-plastic phosphatic dense clay however there were two sections (130 m and 70 m long) with plastic clay where by the expansion clay was "reeled" on the casings of reamers (01000, 1200, 1400, 1600 mm) that has significantly reduced the speed of reaming, and complicated the process of reaming.

Despite for the above mentioned technological difficulties the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” has completed the project construction strictly within the terms specified by the contract. The process of pipeline pulling through itself proceeded for 8 hours, and maximal traction power of drilling facility didn’t exceed 130 tons.

Testing made by the method of cathodic polarization has shown good condition of insulation after pulling through completion and successful completion of oil pipeline crossing construction became possible only thanks to high professionalism of specialists of the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” in the sphere of horizontal directional drilling.

All the works were executed in specified terms highly qualitative and according to the requirements of labor protection, industrial and fire security.

“STROYSISTEMA” ZAO

Review of the executed work in construction of the crossing “Novosibirskoe RNU. NPS Kashtan MN “Anzhero-Sudzhensk-Krasnoyarsk” DN 1000 mm. Exchange of main line of PPMN exchange on the river Tyazhin, 168 km. Reconstruction”. 

In the period from August 25, 2008 to September 03, 2008 the “SP VIS-MOS” OOO has executed installation of bottom pipe of oil pipeline Ø1020 mm 471 m long under the river Tyazhin by the horizontal directional drilling method on request of the ZAO “Stroysistema”.

The oil pipeline crossing was made by the drilling facility PD-250. The borehole for the oil pipeline was expanded up to diameter of 1400 mm.

In geological profile on the borehole trajectory prevailed alluvial formations presented by water-saturated pulverescent sand, clay sands and loamy soil. The processes of drilling, widening and pulling through of the pipeline were executed in accordance with all requirements of design documentation, normative documents and within the terms specified in the contract.

Pipelines insulation was made by the extruded polyethylene industrially, welded joints insulation was made in construction conditions by the shrunk-on rings of the DIRAX type.

The process of pipeline pulling through into the borehole continued for about 4 hours and maximal traction power of drill rig didn’t exceed 65 tons.

All stages of work of the “SP VIS-MOS” OOO in construction of the crossing through the river Tyazhin were executed on a high professional and technical level that became possible thanks to qualification of drill site personal and technical equipment of the company.

Review of the done work

Within the period from November 23, 2009 to December 18, 2009 the specialists of the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” has executed the works in installation of two lines of underwater oil and gas gathering pipeline Ø273x10 through the Irtysh river by the directional drilling method. Pipeline crossing is situated in 60 km from the city Khanty-Mansiysk in the territory of KhMAD – Yugra of the Tyumen region. The length of the reserve line is 1049 running meters, the length of the main line – 1044 running meters. Thanks to competently executed works in pilot borehole drilling, its widening and calibration, traction power by the pipelines pulling through was equal at average to 20 tons.

The trajectory of pilot hole has passed mainly in pulverescent sands (quicksands), fine and average sized sands.

It should be noted that during the period of drilling works execution and pipeline pulling through the outside air temperature has lowered up to -47 ?С.

The works execution was complicated by the fact that the ice crossing through the Irtysh river was not prepared and it was necessary to do relocation of drilling tools, drill pipes from one bank to another by means of helicopter with outside suspension rod.  

The pipelines pulling through process was completed successfully within the terms specified by the contractor’s agreement thanks to high professional qualification of the specialists of the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” and close cooperation with the specialists of Capital construction department of the LLC “Gazpromneft-Khantos”.

Review of the work “SP VIS-MOS” OOO at the project site “MN Almetyevsk-Gorkiy-2,3 D 1020мм. Construction of the reserve line of underwater crossing through the Sura river, section 421-427 km, with installation of security station”.

In February – April 2009 the “Sp VIS-MOS” OOO has executed the works in construction of underwater crossing as a subcontractor through the river Sura by the HDD method. The works in pilot hole drilling, its widening and bottom pipe of oil pipeline pulling through into the reamed borehole. The length of the crossing on the borehole drilling trajectory was 1030,8 m, pipeline diameter was 1020x18mm. Pipe insulation is an industrial three-layer insulation coating of special design (type 4), 4,6 mm thick, welded joints insulation was made by shrunk-on rings Type 4.

The core deposits prevailed in the geological cross section on the wellbore presented by fractured claystones with interlayers of sandstone, soft and low-plastic clays as well as fine and average sized sands in places with gravel and pebble up to 5-10%.

The drilled pilot hole was expanded to the diameter of 1600 mm cyclically and at that diameter the process of pulling through of the previously prepared pipeline into the borehole has started. The traction power of drilling facility didn't exceed 110 tons, and at the exit of borehole it was 90 tons that made only 20% from technical capabilities of the drilling facility PD 450/150.

We note with satisfaction good organization of production in the protected zone of acting oil and gas pipelines, as well as adequate level of works on building sites. The “SP VIS-MOS” OOO has executed all the works in construction of crossings with high quality and in specified terms. There were no deviations from the requirements of the contract, specifications and project documentation.

During the period from March 11, 2008 to April 22, 2008 the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC has executed installation of bottom pipes of oil pipeline Ø820 * 14 mm (main line) 1557 m long, casings of communication cable and VL-10 (high voltage line) 1756 m long ?273*8mm under the river Taz by the HDD method.

Crossing construction was made in remote region in 350 km from Novy Urengoy and it was divided in two stages:

First stage – from March 11, 2008 to April 14, 2008 - drilling and pulling through of casings of communication cable and VL-10 (high voltage line) (main and reserve lines) 1756 m long, ?273*8 mm.

Second stage (main) from April 7, 2008 to April 19, 2008 - drilling and pulling through of the oil pipeline ? 820*14 mm (main line) 1557 m long.

In the geological cross-section on the borehole trajectory prevailed alluvial deposits presented by heavy arenaceous fluid loams and fine pulverescent sands of average density – water saturated, also the sections of permafrost were discovered.

Despite for considerable extent of the borehole, and 50-meter height difference between the banks and presence of permafrost lenses - drilling and widening of horizontal directional borehole were executed in compliance with all requirements of design documentation and normative documents and met the deadline, shown in the contract.

Pipe insulation was made industrially from extruded polyethylene 4,5 mm thick. Welded joints insulation was made by shrunk-on rings Dirax. The process of pipeline pulling through ?820 * 14 mm into the borehole proceeded for 16 hours, maximal loading of drill rig didn’t exceed 120 tons, and at the moment of pipeline entrance into the borehole – 40 tons.  

Insulation coating control of pipeline on the section of the crossing made by the cathodic polarization has shown good condition after pulling through.

Low temperatures up to minus 50 degrees typical for this season haven’t affected the process of construction.

All stages of work of the contracting  organization LLC “SP VIS-MOS” in construction of the crossing through the river Taz were made on a high professional level, thanks to qualification of the company’s personnel and high technical equipment, and long-term working experience in conditions of the Far North. All this let the company to execute pipeline crossings at the level of world achievements in length and diameter in the field of horizontal directional drilling.

First stage – from January 22, 2008 to February 02, 2008 – drilling and pulling through of casings of communication cable and VL-10 (main and reserve lines) 982,5 m long ?273*8 mm.

Second stage (main line) from February 5, 2008 to March 6, 2008 – drilling and pulling through of casings of communication cable ?820*14 mm (main and reserve line) 995 m long.

In a geological cross-section on the borehole trajectory prevailed alluvial formations presented by heavy fluid arenaceous loams and fine pulverescent sands of average density, water saturated and the situation was aggravated by the presence of permafrost areas.

The works were made in a winter period at low temperatures sometimes below minus 50 degrees and despite for considerable extent of the borehole, presence of lenses of permafrost, drilling and widening of horizontal directional borehole were executed in compliance with all requirements of design documentation and normative documents and has met the deadline according to the contract.

Pipe insulation was made industrially from extruded polyethylene 4,5 mm thick. Welded joints insulation was made by shrunk-on rings Dirax. The process of pipeline pulling through ?820 * 14 mm into the borehole proceeded for 10 hours, maximal power of drill rig didn’t exceed 70 tons, and at the moment of pipeline entrance into the borehole – 30 tons.  

Insulation coating control of pipeline on the section of the crossing made by the cathodic polarization has shown good condition after pulling through.

All stages of work of the contracting  organization LLC “SP VIS-MOS” in construction of the crossing through the river Ayvasedapur were made on a high professional level, thanks to long-term working experience in conditions of the Far North and allow to attract it for the crossings construction in more difficult conditions.

 Review of the done work

During the period from October 2, 2008 to November 3, 2008 the “SP VIS-MOS” OOO executed the installation of four casings of polyethylene pipe under the Irtysh river (2 casings  Ø800 x 58,8 mm) and Zamarayka river (2 casings ?630 x 46,3 mm) for installation of a group of power cables (110 kV) and fiber-optic communication cable. Cassings installation was made by the HDD method from the peninsula between the Irtysh river and Zamarayka river.

The length of one borehole through the Irtysh river was 434 linear meters, through the Zamarayka river – 249 meters; the diameter of underground borehole before pulling through of polyethylene casings through the Irtysh river was 1100 mm, through the Zamarayka river – 950 mm. For each casing was made separate borehole. Traction power of drilling facility PD 75/50 by pulling through of each casing didn’t exceed 15 tons.

Deepening of the top of polyethylene casing from the surface of the rivers’ bottom made 10 to 13 m that reliably protects casing and respectively the cables 110 kV too from all external effects. The bottom of the rivers is made by loamy and clay soils that is a beneficial factor for the HDD method and has allowed to pull through the casings into the borehole with an effort of 5% from allowed axial effort at polyethylene casing.

We should note engineering preparation of construction and production culture of drilling and  preparation works and the works in organization of building sites made by the NPO “Mostovik”, the general contractor of cable crossing’s construction.

Made work has allowed not just to finish the construction within short terms specified by the contract but to cause minimal environmental damage both to the urban park and garden zone on the right bank of the Irtysh river, and to private premises on the island where the building sites of the drilling facility were located. Life of the city park was going by in regular mode – sport fields were acting as usual, the yacht club was working, the process of construction hasn’t influenced on the work of recreation zone and the work of city services.

During the period from January 21, 2008 to March 10, 2008 according to the order of the OAO “Belkamneft” the “SP VIS-MOS” OOO has fulfilled the works in installation of bottom pipe into the casing Ø530mm and pulling through process into the casing of oil pipeline ?325mm under the river Kama by the HDD method. Borehole drilling trajectory length is equal to 1536 m. Borehole diameter before casing pulling through is equal to 900 mm.

Alluvial deposits presented by water-saturated pulverescent sand prevailed in the geological profile on the borehole trajectory and the lower on the profile section of borehole has passed in clay soils. Despite for considerable length, drilling and widening and pulling through process of pipeline were executed in accordance with all requirements of design documentation, normative documents and terms of the works fulfillment specified in the contract.

Pipelines insulation was made from extruded polyethylene industrislly, insulation of welded joints was made in construction conditions with shrunk-on sealing rings Dirax.

The process of ?530mm pipeline pulling through proceeded for about 15 hours. Maximal traction power of the drill rig didn’t exceed 70 tons.

The process of ?325mm pipeline pulling through proceeded for about 12 hours. Maximal traction power of the drill rig didn’t exceed 30 tons.

All stages of work of the “SP VIS-MOS” OOO in construction of the facility were made on high professional and technical level that became possible thanks to qualification of drilling personnel and technical equipment of the “SP VIS-MOS” OOO.

Underwater crossing through the Ob river.

Review of the done work

Within the period from January 29 to March 26, 2007 the specialists of the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” have successfully executed the works in installation of two lines of underwater oil pipeline Ø325mm by the HDD method on the crossing through the Ob river in the area of the city Nyagan. The length of the first line was 2209 running meters, length of the second line - 2191 running meters. Thanks to competently completed works in drilling, widening and borehole cleaning the traction power in pipelines pulling through was at the average equal to 30 tons.

Review of the executed work

Within the period from October 9, to November 4, 2007 the consortium “Tempobur-VISMOS” has executed installation of 2 lines of gas pipeline within the limits of gasification of the Tomsk region through the Ob River and a channel by the horizontal directional drilling method.

Present inter-settlement main gas pipeline to the regional center Kolpashevo has big social meaning for uninterrupted gas supply for all facilities of city infrastructure. At present gas is supplied to 14 module gas boiler-rooms of Kolpashevo city and Togur settlement and more than 1000 private houses. The problem of reliability of heat supply is solved, emissions of polluting substances to the atmosphere (3000 tons in a year) are principally reduced.

The IPSK “NGS-Tempobur” has executed a set of construction and installation works as well as preparatory works accompanying drilling process.

The LLC “SP VIS-MOS” has executed the works in borehole drilling and prepared bottom pipe pulling through into the borehole. Possessing its own rig fleet and qualified specialists the company has managed to execute all necessary works within maximally short terms.

The length of drilling trajectory of each borehole through the main channel was up to 1293 linear meters. The drilling trajectory of two boreholes through the channel was 540 running meters for each one. The diameter of boreholes before pipelines pulling through was 800 mm. Drilling process was conducted by the drilling facility PD 220/67 (produced by the company Prime Drilling, Germany) having maximal traction power of 220 tons. By the construction the pipe 377*10 mm was used with insulation made of extruded polyethylene 3,5 mm thick. Joints insulation was made by shrunk-on rings.

The boreholes trajectory under the main channel has passed through light clay having semi-hard consistence with impurity of organic substances, and under the channel it has passed in a water-saturated sand of middle size.

The works in crossings construction were conducted round the clock in difficult climatic conditions. The prepared bottom pipe for pulling through was situated on the island between the main channel of the Ob river and the channel. The works were conducted in the period of freeze-up and that is why pipe and drill rods delivery to the island was made by the river transport that has imposed additional difficulties to the organization of construction works of gas pipeline.

The process of each line of gas pipeline pulling through inside the prepared borehole was made regularly with the speed of 100 running meters pro hour, thus pulling through of one line of gas pipeline through the main channel of the Ob river continued for 9 hours, through the channel – 4 hours. Maximal traction power thus didn't exceed through the main channel 45 tons and through the channel – 30 tons.

Thanks to well-coordinated work of all contractors involved in the crossings construction it became possible to finish pulling through process of the second line before the start of flood and remove the drilling facility from the zone of flooding.

Insulation quality control of laid gas pipelines after completion of pulling through of lines of gas pipeline into the borehole has shown that insulation is in a good condition.

The works in construction of underwater crossings have differed by responsible attitude of the specialists of the consortium “Tempobur - VIS-MOS” to organization of construction, with high professional level, the works were carried out in accordance with actual ecological and environmental rules and standards.

The underwater crossings through the Ob river were executed on a high technical level in accordance with the design project and correspond to all requirements of reliability and operational safety.

During the period from February 20 to April 5, 2007 within the gasification of the Altay Territory the consortium “Tempobur – VIS-MOS” has made the installation of two lines of gas pipeline Ø530 mm by the HDD method.

The IPSK “NGS-Tempobur” OOO has executed a set of planning and surveying works, construction and installation and preparatory works associated to drilling works.

The “SP VIS-MOS” OOO was occupied directly in HDD works and bottom pipe pulling through into the borehole. This company possesses wide equipment fleet and qualitative staff of specialists necessary for execution of crossings of similar complexity.

The borehole drilling trajectory length of the first line of gas pipeline crossing was 1603 linear meters, and the second line – 1607 linear meters. Borehole diameter before gas pipeline pulling through was 800 mm. Drilling was made by the drilling facility PD 220/67 (manufactured by the company Prime Drilling GmbH, Germany) having maximal traction power of 220 tons.

The trajectory of boreholes has passed mainly in light solid water-saturated sands however at the entrance of borehole there were sands of average size, loose, water-saturated (quicksands) transferring to the arenaceous loams, low-plastic and pebble-gravel soils. The works in crossings construction were made round the clock in complicated climatic conditions.

Pipe insulation was made industrially from extruded polyethylene 3,5 mm thick, and the insulation of welded joints was made by shrunk-on rings Dirax.

The process of each line of gas pipeline pulling through continued for 12 hours, maximal traction power didn’t exceed 80 tons.

Thanks to well-coordinated work of all contractors involved in the crossings’ construction it has succeeded to finish pulling through process of the second line before the start of flooding and remove drilling facility from the flooding zone. 

Insulation quality control of laid lines of gas pipeline after pulling through into the borehole has shown that the insulation is in a good condition.

The works in construction of underwater crossings have differed with responsible attitude of specialists of the Consortium “Tempobur – VIS-MOS” to the organization of construction, high professional level, they were conducted taking into account actual Russian Norms and rules, requirements of ecological and nature-protection norms. Underwater crossings through the river Ob were made on a high technical level in accordance with project design and meeting all requirements of reliability and operational safety.

Review of the executed work 

During the period from July 20, 2006 to August 08, 2006 the LLC “SP VIS-MOS” has executed the gas pipeline installation Ø273 mm under the Volga River (Gorkovskoe water basin near the city Kineshma) by the horizontal directional drilling method.

The length of a borehole drilling trajectory was 2100 running meters, and borehole diameter before pipeline pulling through was 750 mm. Crossings having similar characteristics (length and diameter) on the project sites of pipeline construction made by the HDD method only in Germany and China.

The drilling process was conducted by the drill rig PD 220/67 (manufactured by the company Prime Drilling GmbH, Germany) having maximal traction power of 220 tons and maximal torque of 67 kN. The drill rig successfully works since 2002 on various building sites in extreme climatic conditions of Russia.

The borehole trajectory has passed mainly in solid rocks of Upper-Jurassic formations presented by black micaceous semisolid and solid clay.

The borehole trajectory has also crossed the layer of sandstone of low durability having a capacity up to 2,5 m and a layer of sand clay formations with inserts of pebble and semi-rolled gruss having a capacity of 12 m.

The drilling process was conducted by water jet drilling head.

Pipe insulation was made industrially from extruded polyethylene 3,5 mm thick and welded joints insulation was made by shrunk-on rings Dirax.

The process of pipeline pulling through into the borehole proceeded for 20 hours, maximal traction power didn’t exceed 80 tons (generally 40-60 tons), and maximal torque didn’t exceed 60 kN. Insulation quality control of the pipeline after completion of pulling through has shown that insulation is in a good condition.

Successful completion of construction confirms that qualification of the specialists of the “SP VIS-MOS” LLC and available rig fleet let the enterprise to carry out pipeline crossings of high geotechnical complexity level.

Project site: “Main oil product pipeline “Kstovo-Yaroslavl – Kirishi – Primorsk” (first stage). Crossing through the river Volkhov by the HDD method.

In August, 2006 the “SP VIS-MOS” OOO was making the works in construction of underwater crossing through the river Volkhov as a subcontractor by the HDD method on the section Gas compression station “Kirishi” – PPS “Nevskaya” of the main oil product line “Kstovo – Yaroslavl – Kirishi - Primorsk”. The works in pilot hole drilling and widening and bottom pipe pulling through into the reamed borehole of oil product pipeline Ø530 mm were performed.

Pipe insulation is an industrial three-layers insulation coating of special design (type 4), 2,5 mm thick, welded joints insulation was made by shrunk-on rings of the Dirax type.

Borehole drilling trajectory length was 640 linear meters. Glacial deposits prevailed in geological profile of the borehole presented by high and low-plastic loams with interlayers of sands locally with gravel and pebbles up to 5-10%.

So that according to the conditions of relief there was no possibility to install the bottom pipe full-length in the cross-section of pulling through, it wasn’t foreseen by the design project to make pull through with two strings with one break and making warranty field joint. After conclusion of welding works and restoration of pulling through process the traction power has slightly increased that is an evidence to sufficient borehole cleaning and good stability of the overroof. Total time for pulling through of the oil product pipeline was 12 hours. 5 hours from this time were spent for welding and testing of golden weld. Traction power was at average equal to 10-20 tons.

We note with satisfaction good quality of organization of productionon the building site as well as adequate level of construction and installation works. The “SP VIS-MOS” OOO has executed all the works in crossing construction with high quality and in specified terms. There were no deviations from contract’s requirements, technical conditions and design documentation.

Within capital repairs of the gas pipeline – bend to the settlement Chikola (the Kabardino-Balkariya Republic) in the period from September 17 to October 15, 2005 the “SP VIS-MOS” OOO on the terms of subcontract has executed the reconstruction of existing overhead crossing of gas pipeline through the river Terek. The Customer was Kavkaztransgaz, OOO, the functions of general contractor executed the OOO IPSK “NGS Tempobur”.

Combined installation of gas pipeline Ø219mm and cable casing ?114 mm on the underwater crossing through the river Terek was made by the directional drilling method. The borehole drilling trajectory was 971 linear meters, borehole diameter before pipelines pulling through was 600mm, maximal power of drill rig didn't exceed 30 tons.  Deviation from the exit point of pilot bore was less than 0,5 meters from the designed exit point.  

Insulation coating of pipes was made industrially from extruded polyethylene: for the gas pipeline – 3,5 mm thick, for the communication cable casing – 2,0 mm. Insulation of welded joints was made in field conditions by shrunk-on rings of the Dirax type.

Tests made by the cathodic polarization method have shown good condition of pipelines insulation after the end of pulling through.

All contractual obligations in construction of the facility the “SP VIS-MOS” OOO has made within strictly specified terms and with good quality of works.

The length of the borehole drilling trajectory was 496 linear meters, borehole diameter before pipe ramming was 1400 mm.

 

Geologic profile on the well bore is characterized by wide development of glacial and glaciolacustrine deposits presented by loams of fluid-plastic to fluid consistency, thixotropic, water-saturated, with interlayers of pulverescent sand.

 

According to the classification of Construction norms and rules IV-2-82 such soils belongs to the 7^th construction group of soils on difficulty of development by the mechanized method.

 

Despite for the fact that drilling and widening of the borehole were made in complicated mountain geological conditions, the construction of underwater crossing was made within specified terms.

 

Traction power of drilling facility by the pipeline pulling through didn’t exceed 80 tons. The process of pipeline pulling through into the borehole proceeded for 8 hours.

 

Construction of the underwater crossing through the river Pchevzha was made according to the working draft taking into account the requirements of design documentation and normative documents.

During the period from February 15, 2004 to March 15, 2004 the “SP VIS-MOS” OOO has executed oil pipeline installation Ø1020 x 18 mm under the river Pes’ by the directional drilling method.

 

The length of the borehole drilling trajectory was 465 linear meters, borehole diameter before pipe ramming was 1400 mm. Fluvioglacial sediments of the Upper Pleistocene prevail in a structural cross-section presented by sands of different size including gravel sands, with gravel and pebble inclusions up to 15%, and separate boulders.

 

Despite for difficult geological conditions, drilling and widening of horizontal directional borehole were made without complications, with observance of requirements of design documentation and normative documents.                                       

 

Pipe insulation was made industrially from extruded polyethylene 3,5 mm thick. Welded joint insulation was made by shrunk-on rings of the “Dirax” type.

 

The process of pipeline pulling through into the borehole proceeded for 6 hours. The control of insulation coating of pipeline crossing by the cathodic polarization method has shown good condition of insulation coating after pipeline pulling through.

The Open Joint-stock company “Nizhnevartovskoe oil-and-gas producing Enterprise" acting as the CUSTOMER in construction of the crossing of oil pipeline CPF Ermakovskaya – NPS NV UMN through the river Ob testifies that the “SP VIS-MOS” OOO has successfully finished the construction of mentioned crossing in December 2003 by the HDD method.

The diameter of oil pipeline crossing is 325 mm, and its length is 1500 linear meters. The borehole was located in alluvial sand and clay soils. Pipe insulation was made industrially from extruded polyethylene 3,5 mm thick.

The insulation of welded joint was made in field conditions by shrunk-on rings of the Dirax type.

The process of pipeline pulling through into the borehole continued for 48 hours at the outside air temperature in the range from minus 8°C to minus 15?С.

Borehole diameter before pipeline pulling through was 600 mm.

Maximal traction power of drill rig in the process of pulling through didn’t exceed 28 tons.

Visual quality examination of surfaces of insulation coating and shrunk-on rings made after completion of pulling through process has shown that the surfaces of insulation and shrunk-on rings are in good condition.

Review of the work of the Joint venture “VIS & MOS, ltd” on the project sites of the AO “Podvodspetsstroy”

 

Within the period from 1995 to 1996 the joint venture “VIS & MOS, ltd.” has taken part in construction of fiber-optic communication lines from Moscow to Novorossiysk, and from Moscow to Saint Petersburg.

The enterprise has executed the works in installation of casings made of polyethylene pipes through the Don river (2 crossings), Oka river, Volga river by the HDD method. Total length of crossings is 1170 m. All crossings were made in a very short term and with high quality.

There were no claims to the quality and terms of the works execution from the Customer’s part.

The technology of horizontal directional drilling in the nearest foreseeable future will be the most progressive and will provide to decrease expenses in labour, material resources and will cause minimal damage to the environment by the construction of pipeline crossings through the water obstacles.

Review of the work of the Joint venture “Vis & Mos” in installation of pipelines on the sections of crossings through the natural obstacles by the directional drilling method.

In August and September, 1994 the Joint Venture “Vis & Mos” has executed the works in installation of gas pipelines Ø426mm, 123 m long through the river Pekhorka and its overflow land in the Luberetsky district of Moscow and also under automobile roads and utility lines in the city Vidnoe, Moscow region with total length of 260 meters.

The enterprise “Vis & Mos” possesses high-efficiency tunneling machines providing drilling of soils up to the sixth category. 

Technological processes provide pipe installation with deviation from designed profile within normative deviations from the design profile within standard tolerances. Process control is made by high-precision instruments and computers. 

Should be especially noted safety of environment in the zone of the works execution and insignificant influence on neighboring production zones and other zones. 

Resource intensity, and therefore the cost of works executed by this method are lower as compared with traditional technologies.  Expenses for preparatory and final operations are considerably decreased and the level of operating culture is high.

Complex tests of pipelines on the shown crossings have shown high quality of works executed by the horizontal directional drilling method by efforts of Joint Venture “Vis & Mos”.
