The Zapadno-Messoyakhskoe field

The "SP VIS-MOS" LLC has set a world record in construction by the directional drilling method (HDD). Construction of the northernmost underwater oil pipeline crossing, both in Russia and in the world, through the river Indikyakha on the Gydan Peninsula in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous district in the Arctic circle was completed by the horizontal directional drilling technology. Construction of the crossing through the river Indikyakha 780 meters long within the development plan of the northernmost in Russia Messoyakha group of filed on the Gydan Peninsula in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous district has been fulfilled within conditions of ever-frozen soils in the Arctic circle, in the region with poor infrastructure. Licenses for exploration and development of fields owns the "Messoyakhaneftegaz" CJSC, which is equally controlled by the companies "Gazprom Neft" and "Rosneft". The "Gazprom neft" company carries out functions of the Project operator.
The oil pipeline that will connect the group of Messoyakha fields with northernmost point of the main pipeline system "Zapolyarye – Purpe", is about 100 km long and 530 mm in diameter. For extra reliability the wall thickness of the section, passing under the channel of the river Indikyakha, was increased for 30% in relation to the other part of a pipeline – up to 14 mm. For protection of the environment against heat effect the pipeline in thermal insulation was placed in a protective casing 1020 mm in diameter with wall thickness of 16 mm.
